| We
are offering one day workshops
utilizing exercises from the
ReSurfacing® Workbook for
children having difficulties with
attention, as well as parents,
teachers or anyone else working
with this problem. The
exercises are experiential and
deal specifically with attention
and the will. In reviewing
literature on A.D.D. & A.D.H.D.
most of the help offered is in the
form of medicine, behavior
control, accommodating for
problems encountered in school
with added assistance, tutoring
etc. Very little is offered
with regard to working with the
person's attention. The
definition of Attention Deficit
Disorder according to the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual
of Mental Disorders; IV Edition
distinguishes between three types:
The type primarily characterized
by inattention (difficulty
sustaining attention to tasks);
The type primarily characterized
by hyperactivity-impulsivity
(excessive fidgeting or talking,
or difficulty from saying or doing
whatever comes to mind); and the
third type that is a combination
of the two.
Harry
Palmer, the originator of the
Avatar Materials, writes about
attention in the ReSurfacing
Workbook, "The word attention
is derived from two Latin
words-ad, meaning toward and
tendere, meaning stretch.
When you put your attention on
something you stretch toward it.
Look at something and you stretch
toward it. Once your
curiosity is satisfied, your
attention comes off whatever you
were looking at, listening to,
touching,etc, and moves to
something else. The function
of the will is to decide, place,
shift or remove attention.
When attention is not directed by
the will, it behaves in response
to the environment or according to
past patterns."
The
exercises offered in this workshop
are taken from the WILL and
ATTENTION sections of the material
and give the participant an
experiential understanding of the
workings of both. We also
have available a collection of
Awareness Games for kids that was
compiled by a group of Avatar
Masters who work with children.
These help stimulate awareness,
attention, creativity,
imagination, cooperation and / or
memory. Anyone interested in
these should contact us and we'll
send out a free copy. A Copy
of the exercises is now available CLICK
HERE and you can print one off
to use. |
